Autumn 2023 on The Farm

8th March 2023

The Autumn conditions we are experiencing this year are a bit different to the last few. Autumn we would expect to have cooler conditions arrive, but the summer heat has continued so far. The resilience we have built into our soils over the past few years, resting our land when we needed it , mulching and adding amendments is really showing compared to the district. In the coming months we will be heading into winter and decisions will have to be made in areas such as stocking rates, soil and biological amendments for the coming season. Once the season clicks over to autumn conditions we will consider applying biological products and food sources to our soils. We need to remember to apply products in the right seasonal conditions for those products to be successful. We have now sold all the sheep and continue to have our trade cattle adjusting our numbers to suit the season. One of the major things we learnt and changed in the drought was to be more flexible and adapt to the conditions nature has given us. We have all chosen to be farmers, so with the correct information we can make informed decisions to adapt to seasonal conditions.
