Overseer Saddle Trees

11th October 2017

All Overseer saddles are built on a laminated wood and steel tree. These saddle trees provide a solid and well-structured foundation. Here at The Overseer Saddlery we choose wood and steel saddle trees because they have diagonal flexibility, allowing movement with the horse's back but at the same time carrying weight front to back. This style of tree allows us to custom-make saddles for a superior fit and comfort of both horse and rider.

The wood and steel tree design has proven successful for rider balance and the horse’s comfort for centuries. These saddle trees are far superior to a rigid tree such as fibreglass or bull hide as they flex with the movement of the horse’s back.

The stirrup bar attached to the tree allows the rider to have the correct triangulation between the stirrup bar, the stirrup and the rider’s hip for the correct balance.

The head of the wood and steel tree is reinforced with a spring steel plate to stop it from spreading. The stirrup bars are welded to the head for superior strength.

The gullet in Overseer saddle trees come in a standard widths, which we have perfected over many years of experience. They can be varied to any measurement, thus fitting any horse.

The Overseer Saddlery has searched far and wide to find a better tree, but at this point it does not exist. The trees we have used and developed over the last 30 years are far superior to any other style of trees on the market.

Saddle Tree - Pack Saddle

This is our Swivel Pack Saddle Tree. This tree works on the same principle as our wood and steel tree allowing diagonal flexibility. Lengthways it does carry weight, but it still allows for diagonal flex. This tree is based on a military saddle, proven to be a superior design by the Australian military from the early 1900’s.

We have chosen to use cast steel in the bows due to strength, durability and its ease to weld if a breakage was to occur. The boards are inject moulded with a polyurethane product, giving us a perfect shape every time.

To prove the success and durability of our Overseer Pack Saddle design, we can now boast that two of our clients have successfully completed 5330km of the Bicentennial National Trail from Healesville in Victoria to Cooktown in far North Queenstown.
